The way we talk to ourselves is a direct reflection of what is happening in our psyche. In my experience, this is a fundamental part of starting to feel better about ourselves and our surroundings, particularly at this time of 'lockdown.'
In other words.. no one can swim with a foot on their head! Especially if the foot is yours and you don't realise it! So today, make your life easier by catching yourself everytime you are critical towards yourself and start again with "it's understandable you feel that..." This is a very subtle but powerful way for life to start to feel easier and flow...

This time of 'lockdown' is taking people into a period of self reflection.. it shows us how much we would otherwise distract ourselves with external things.
A great analogy now is to consider how we live our lives in terms of a journey by boat. For many, the boat of choice has been a motor boat, the focus on crossing the river, as fast as possible, to a specific point on the opposite bank. The aim is the destination with no attention to how it is to be in the boat on the way there... no attention on you or your experience... which ultimately leads to a sense of 'something missing' and that thing that is missing is YOU! Imagine instead, travelling by sail boat. Setting the intention that you will be taken somewhere and relaxing, enjoying the calm of the subtle wind taking you there and the beauty of your surroundings. Trusting that perhaps the wind knows something more than you do and there is perhaps a better place for you to moor your boat which you will be taken to.. Try this as a meditation, surrendering to the wind and letting the beauty take you where you need to be, surrendering to and accepting what is ... A subtle but very effective way to overcome any feelings of helplessness at this challenging time of lockdown is to remind ourselves that we have choices within these constraints ... awareness of choice, even simple things like what do I choose in this moment has a profoundly empowering effect. |
